It also works well as a pudding, drizzled with jam or syrup. Certainly a favourite when I was a child and still a hit with my nephews!

We weren’t able to achieve very high temperatures in our old oven, Gareth, but the new one is much hotter and therefore great for Yorkshire pudding.

The trick is to make sure your oil is very hot and don’t open the oven door while its cooking.

duvetgirl, ours used to take ages to rise in our old oven, but now we have a new oven that goes to a much higher temperature and it’s much easier to get them to rise nicely.

I can not get my Yorkshire puddings to rise to such golden perfection, despite much experimentation. It’s an ongoing project that I’m determined to crack before next summer!
