Yesterday we spent the day decorating the house and the tree. It seemed fitting to have some mince pies while we did so and luckily we had some mincemeat in the fridge that we’d made a week or so ago, to our usual recipe.
We didn’t quite get the sizes right, our cutters were either too big or too small for the tins we had but we got there in the end. The mincemeat was less sweet than year, I think because I remembered the cranberries this time. Next time, I think we’ll use sweet pastry to compensate.
PS Notice the “DD” for “Dinner Diary” mince pie in the middle. There was one with an F and G on it too but it’s hidden in the picture.
Let me go google what minced pies are! nonetheless, these look great!

Ah, how cute are they! I wish I liked Christmas desserts as I’d love to make mince pies, but alas.

Mrs Ergul – Wikipedia has a really good (and amusing!) page on mince pies. They’re a slightly strange concept if you’re not familiar with them but don’t let that put you off!
What don’t you like about them Lizzie? I was never a fan myself as I found them too dense and I wasn’t keen on glace cherries or mixed peel; I leave these out now that we make our own and I much prefer them.
They look so sweet! Will you be making another batch for christmas eve?!?
I might do, depends whether we’ll be having any visitors 😛
I’m not a big fan on Christmas desserts in general; I don’t like cinnamon much (unless in mulled wine – ahem) nor the fruitcake element. 🙁 I’ll keep trying!
