Weekend Round-Up

Posted By Kerri

We were away in Kent this weekend so didn’t do much in the way of cooking but here’s what we managed to eat while we were away.  We started the weekend at a beer festival, our friends bought along their portable barbecue and we ate barbecued sausages in crusty bread while sampling 40 local ales.

On Saturday, we headed down to the Oyster Festival in Whitstable where we at crab sandwiches, jellied eels and breaded prawns on the beach.

That evening, we baked some local mackerel and served it with samphire and Jersey Royal Potatoes.

Yesterday, we finished off the weekend with some barbecued hamburgers.

Today, we’ll be eating salad.

Just found your site through What’shappeningatmyhouse, and am loving it. Could easily make up my next two months menus from your recipes. Will be adding you to my bloglist for sure. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Looks like some good eating – love the bits of crab meat in that sandwich. My first and last crab sandwich was more like a paste. I need to give that another go.

Chaotic Kerri, welcome and we hope you continue to enjoy it! 🙂

Su-Lin, sometimes people make the brown crab meat into a paste – we did have a bit of that in ours, but also lots of pieces of white crab which was great.

Lizzie, the oyster festival is great. I didn’t used to like oysters at all (tasted like a mouthful of sea water) but after having them in Whitstable I started to like them.

Funny you say that, Stephen. The only time I’ve had oysters was from a lovely little cart by the beach at Whitstable and I thought they were awful! The prawns, however…
