Celeriac and Potato Soup
After the success of the Jerusalem artichoke soup, I thought I’d try my luck with some celeriac that was lurking at the bottom of the fridge. I basically followed the previous recipe and just substituted the artichokes for celeriac and it worked well. Not a complete triumph, there’s still something missing (possibly just [...]

Stephen’s mum was here for dinner last night and since it was the last evening before she returned home to South Africa, we opted for a traditional roast chicken. I was a bit disorientated while cooking though (due to yet another visit to the dentist) and forgot about the roast potatoes. I’d been [...]

We had a butternut squash at work last week that looked a bit ugly on the outside and was rejected by our customers so I bought it, knowing that the inside would be fine. I must be a glutton for punishment since I decided to turn it in to soup but, in order to [...]

This was the ’soup of the day’ at work yesterday and was perfect at warming me up on my lunch break. I asked the chef how he made it and it sounded so simple that I thought I would try to recreate it at home today. Given my past history with soup, I [...]

We followed Hugh [...]
Boxing Day Bubble and Squeak
Boxing Day wouldn’t be Boxing Day without bubble and squeak. All the leftover vegetables, along with the bacon, were fried and served with the leftover meats. Gravy for Stephen, brown sauce for my mum. One of my favourite meals of the holiday.

With just three of us for Christmas lunch, it seemed silly to eat something as large as a turkey so we opted for chicken instead. Thinking it would be easy to find, we didn’t order one which meant Stephen scouring the supermarket shelves on Christmas Eve. He eventually tracked this down in Waitrose which meant [...]

Like most people at this time of year, Stephen and I have been pretty busy and continue to be so until well into the new year. With not a lot of time to devote to thinking about food, inspiration deserts us and planning meals becomes more of a chore than a pleasure.
Today’s dinner [...]
Yorkshire Pudding
I’ve had a stomach bug for the last few days which means I’ve mostly been eating dry bread and drinking water. Despite our dedication to posting almost everything we eat, we both felt that was pushing the concept of Dinner Diary somewhat which is why it’s been a bit quiet around here lately.
Feeling better [...]
Breaded Chicken
We went out for dinner last night (post to follow) and ate so much that neither of us have really been hungry today. That said, we needed to eat something but it had to be plain and reasonably light. Breaded chicken with savoy cabbage was just right.
This is essentially the same as this [...]
