Stephen is out tonight so I have spent most of the day wondering whether to cook something for myself or just have Marmite toast. I decided that I would attempt to make an interesting pasta sauce with the chorizo that’s been lurking in the fridge and some mushrooms I bought on the way home. Interesting is one word for it, another might be inedible.
So, in the end the Marmite toast won out. I should have just done that in the first place and saved myself the effort of cleaning up.
Marmite on toast just has to be one of those childhood memory things – although I have a slice almost every day for breakfast, if I ever eat it at any other time of day it takes me straight back to childhood.
My wife can’t abide it (something to do with being Scottish – I never yet met a Scott who could eat it) but I’m brining up the baby on marmite toast…
I’m a recent convert, I could take it or leave it beforehand (which pleased me as it proved I wasn’t a marketeer’s dream) but lately I haven’t been able to get enough of the stuff.
Interesting about the Scottish thing…I wonder why that is?
I’ve always been a big fan of Marmite. Either on toast or just on bread too. And especially on toast with scrambled eggs. When I was younger I used to have Marmite and marmalade on the same piece of toast sometimes.
